Sculpey question

okay i tried to bake my sculture for the first time with sculey, and its only been there for like a min or couple seconds. I opened the oven and i could smell the sculpey...is that supposed to happen? i also saw like smoke or something but its not burned or anything...its just hard on the top
Please answer im panicking
it wont affect are food too will it?
